Media
Why Media?
Macquarie's Media Department originated in 1970 as the first of its kind in Australia. In 2009 it merged with three other departments to form the Department of Media, Music and Cultural Studies becoming a discipline within the new department. The discipline has continuously updated its teaching program and facilities to ensure relevance in a constantly changing media landscape, and is now one of the best media educators in the country and the region.
Media's teaching philosophy combines the critical and the creative, the theoretical and the practical. Our programs draw on staff with a broad range of academic credentials, and professional industry experience, including filmmakers, journalists, broadcasters and new media practitioners.
Recognising and fostering the convergences between research, learning and practice, the Media discipline actively creates and pursues links amongst media scholars and practitioners, other media stakeholders and the wider community.
The Student Showcase presents an opportunity for prospective students to experience works produced by various areas within the Media Department (requires Flash Player 9).
